Hello World!

As in all programming languages, we’ll start by writing a ‘Hello World’ message on the screen.

Firstly, you should open the python shell.

In the most OS distributions (including Windows) you can do this by pressing the start key (or the super key for MacOS users) and write ‘python3’ (without quotes).

The shell code of python starts with >>>.

Write there:

print('Hello World!')

Let’s decifer it. We wanted to wrote a message (Hello World!) so we instructed the computer to write it by calling the function print. As you can see, the desired message is written between quotes (' sign). Those quotes are used to mark our message as being a string (see the next lesson).
